How to Refill and Manage Your Orthopedic Medications at OrthoLA

Managing your orthopedic prescriptions shouldn’t be stressful. Whether you’re recovering from surgery, managing joint pain, or starting a new treatment plan, OrthoLA is here to guide you.

Our team makes it easy to request refills, understand your medications, and get answers when you need them.

This page covers how to refill your prescription, what to expect with pain medications, and how we coordinate with your pharmacy to keep your care on track.

How Do I Refill My Orthopedic Prescription?

To refill a prescription from OrthoLA, call the office where you were seen. Prescription refill requests are handled during normal business hours and may take 24 to 48 hours to process. Be sure to request your refill before you run out of medication. We do not refill prescriptions after hours or on weekends.

Tip: Have your full name, date of birth, and the name of your medication ready when you call. This helps us serve you faster.

Will My Prescription Be Sent to My Pharmacy Automatically?

In most cases, yes. Your orthopedic provider will send your prescription directly to your preferred pharmacy through our secure electronic system.

Please verify your pharmacy details before leaving your appointment.

If you run into any issues at the pharmacy, such as the medication not being available or a delay in processing, call us and we’ll help resolve it.

What’s OrthoLA’s
Pain Medication Policy?

OrthoLA follows strict state and federal guidelines when prescribing pain medication, including opioids. These medications are only prescribed when medically necessary, and often require an in-person visit for refills.

If you’re experiencing increased pain or believe you need a refill on a controlled substance, please call your provider.

In some cases, we may refer you to a pain management specialist for long-term support.

Can I Take Over-the-Counter Medications for Joint or Muscle Pain?

Yes. Many orthopedic conditions can be managed with over-the-counter medications like:

  • Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) for inflammation

  • Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain relief

  • Topical creams or gels for muscle soreness

  • Supplements like glucosamine or turmeric for joint health (ask your doctor first)

Always follow your OrthoLA provider’s instructions and dosage recommendations when using over-the-counter products.

What If My Pharmacy Has a Question About My Prescription?

Pharmacists can contact our office directly for prescription clarifications or authorizations. If your medication is unavailable or a prior authorization is needed, we’ll work with your pharmacy to provide the right documentation.
